Need to talk to someone now?
Confidential helplines for 12 countries, most of them free, plus online chat that works from anywhere.
Guru-frat is built to make betting more deliberate: fewer bets, better prices, sized with a plan. That only works while betting is something you choose to do, not something you feel you have to do. This page covers the ground rules, how the product is designed to back you up, the signs that betting is turning into a problem, the tools that help, and where to find free support.
The basics
What we are
A data tool, not a sportsbook
We never take bets, hold your money or pay out winnings. Guru-frat shows prices and grades. Any bet you place is your decision, made with a sportsbook under its rules.
Who it’s for
Adults, where betting is legal
The legal gambling age depends on where you live: 18 in many countries, higher in some places. Use Guru-frat only if you’re of age and sports betting is legal where you are.
What a grade means
An edge, not a promise
A grade compares a price with the fair price. It says nothing about who wins: S-grade plays lose often, and an edge only shows up over many bets. How grades work
Treat betting as entertainment that costs money. Decide in advance what you could lose without touching rent, bills, food or savings, and never borrow to bet. Joining Guru-frat asks you to confirm you’re of legal gambling age where you live, and our Terms set out who can use it.
Season 1 preseason. The odds, grades and plays on Guru-frat are illustrative sample data for now, not live prices. Don’t place real bets based on them.
Built for discipline
Games are good at shaping habits, so we chose carefully which habits ours rewards. XP, streaks and standings reward process: comparing prices, drafting well-graded plays, beating the closing line and keeping your limits. The size, number and results of your bets are left out on purpose.
Earns XP

Never earns XP
- How much you stakeA $5 bet and a $500 bet earn the same: nothing.
- How many bets you placePlacing more bets earns no XP.
- Whether you winResults never earn XP; closing line value measures the price you got.
Drafting saves a play to your list so its closing line value can be tracked. It doesn’t place a bet, and Guru-frat can’t see the bets you place.
Your daily limit beats Kelly
Kelly sizing tells you how much of your bankroll an edge justifies, and Guru-frat shows a quarter of it, a more cautious version. But Kelly sizes one bet at a time, and a busy board is full of edges. That’s what the daily unit limit is for. You set a unit size and a daily limit on your Player Card. The Stake check on each game in the Game Center shows quarter Kelly next to what’s left of today’s limit. When Kelly asks for more than you have left, it says so. When the limit is used up, it tells you to sit the bet out.
The sample Player Card has a $2,500 bankroll, $50 units and a 5-unit daily limit. The board shows 70 +EV plays across 53 games.
Every one of those plays has an edge on paper. Backing them all at quarter Kelly would put 44% of the bankroll at risk at once. The daily limit caps it at 10% a day, and with 4 of 5 units used, there’s $50 left today, whatever Kelly says.
Once the limit is used, you pass, and passing counts. Staying under your limit is a daily drill worth +40 XP, and it counts toward the Disciplined trophy (keep your limit 14 days).
Streaks count visits, not bets
Your streak counts the days in a row you open the board. A day when you look, find nothing worth betting and close the tab keeps it alive. If the streak ever starts to feel like pressure, let it go. A missed day only resets the count, and it never costs money.
Standings reward process
Standings rank players by season XP, with ties broken by closing line value. Profit and stake size don’t count. Season rewards are cosmetic, like a card frame or a banner for your Player Card. None of them is cash or betting credit.
Warning signs
Gambling problems usually build gradually, and they’re easier to deal with early. These are the signs health services and gambling support charities commonly describe. Be honest with yourself about whether any of them have been true lately.
- You bet more than you planned, or more than you can afford to lose.
- You need bigger stakes to get the same excitement.
- You chase losses, betting again to win back what you lost.
- You borrow money, sell things or skip bills to keep betting.
- You hide your betting, or aren’t honest about how much you’ve lost.
- You’ve tried to cut back or stop and couldn’t, or you feel restless and irritable when you try.
- You bet to escape stress, boredom or low mood.
- Betting is on your mind most of the time.
- It’s causing trouble with work, study, money, relationships or sleep.
- People close to you are worried about your betting.
If you bet with an edge
Betting with a model can make a problem harder to spot, because every bet comes with a reason. Watch for these too:
- Using “it’s +EV” to justify stakes above your limit, or money you can’t afford to lose.
- Feeling you have to act on every alert or every S-grade play.
- Raising your stakes after a bad beat because the math “owes” you.
- Moving your daily limit up mid-session to fit in one more play.
Expected value is an average over many bets. It doesn’t make any single bet affordable, and no edge can win back money you’re chasing.
If any of this sounds familiar, you don’t need to wait for it to get worse. Helplines are confidential, most are free, and getting in touch commits you to nothing. Find a helpline below.
Tools that help
Limits work best when you set them before you start, while you’re calm, not in the middle of a session.
Set limits
- At your sportsbook. Many licensed sportsbooks let you set deposit, loss and time limits in your account settings. Pick amounts you’d be comfortable losing.
- On Guru-frat. Set a unit size and a daily unit limit on your Player Card. They’re saved in your browser and never sent to us.
- With your bank. Some banks and card issuers let you block gambling payments from their app. Check yours, or ask.
Take breaks
- Plan days with no betting at all, and step away after a big win or a big loss. Both make the next bet feel more urgent than it is.
- Many sportsbooks offer a time-out or cool-off option that locks your account for a set period.
- On Guru-frat you can pause the Plays feed and switch your alert rules off. Turning off betting notifications on your phone helps too.
Self-exclusion
Self-exclusion blocks you from gambling for a set period, often months or years. Some countries run one register that covers every licensed operator:
GAMSTOPGreat Britain
Free national online self-exclusion. It blocks your access to accounts on gambling websites and apps licensed in Great Britain.

gob.pe (opens in a new tab)Operator by operatorColombia
There's no central register. Every online operator authorized by Coljuegos has a self-exclusion option on its own platform, so you exclude yourself from each one separately.
coljuegos.gov.co (opens in a new tab)Elsewhere, you can usually self-exclude directly with each sportsbook, from your account settings or through customer support. Some gambling regulators also run schemes of their own, so check with the regulator where you live.
Guru-frat and self-exclusion. Guru-frat has no user accounts during the preseason, so we can’t lock you out. If you’ve self-excluded, or think you should, please stop using Guru-frat too. You can block it with your device’s or browser’s content settings.
Blocking software
Blocking apps stop gambling sites and apps from loading on your devices, which puts time between the urge and the bet.
Free, from a registered Scottish charity (SC049565). Works on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS, Fire OS and AppGallery, with no account or personal data needed.
betblocker.org (opens in a new tab)Paid blocking app: £4.99 a month or £29.99 a year, with a 7-day free trial.

For family and friends
Gambling harm reaches the people around the gambler too: partners, parents, children and friends. If you’re worried about someone, support is there for you as well. Gambling Therapy offers advice and emotional support to anyone affected by gambling, and you can ask any helpline above whether it supports family members.
Starting the conversation
- Pick a calm moment, not right after a loss or an argument.
- Talk about specific things you’ve noticed and how they affect you, rather than labels.
- Listen more than you talk. Denial or anger is a common first reaction, and it can take more than one conversation.
- Offer to look up a helpline together, or to sit with them while they call.
Looking after yourself
- Don’t pay off their debts or lend money “just this once”. Bailing someone out can make it easier to keep betting.
- Protect shared money, for example with separate accounts, and keep your own access to savings.
- You can’t make someone change, but you can get support for yourself whether or not they’re ready.
- If anyone is at risk of harm, call your local emergency number.
